Elul Community Learning Opportunities – Prepare for the High Holy Days

August 21, 2020 - September 18, 2020

As we enter the month of Elul, we begin to  center our minds and prepare our souls for the High Holy Days.

We invite you to participate in the following Community Learning Opportunities all month long.

The upcoming High Holidays will be unlike any most of us have known. We have woken up to our deep interconnection to all people and our own fragility. We have seen more clearly the deep injustice of systems and power structures in our country. We have heard voices pleading for life. Perhaps we are awake in a way we have not been before. How can we maintain and even deepen this awareness as we enter a new year?

The Shofar Project is a free program open to people of all backgrounds who want to make this a year of continued awakening, responsiveness, renewal, and transformation. It takes place during the Hebrew month of Elul, the month preceding the Jewish High Holy Days, a traditional period for intensive spiritual reflection, introspection, and moral accounting (August 21 – September 18, 2020).

Join USY for an 18 day learning challenge
Starting on August 24th, join us as we challenge ourselves to learn more about Racial Injustice in America. For 18 days, we plan to send out daily emails with challenges to complete, sources to read, and questions to ask ourselves. Each day will feature stories of Americans of Color who have either been victims of brutality in our society or who have risen as a leader against those injustices. In addition to these daily emails, you will also have an opportunity to engage in discussions with other USYers on a private Instagram account. Every few days we will post prompts to help you process the information and discuss it with the other USYers who are participating.
