Obituary
MEYER KEPPY STEIMAN Meyer Keppy Steiman, born August 1, 1919, passed quietly away on March 11, 2012 at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his parents Max and Rose Steiman; brothers Manny, Sam and Harold Steiman; sisters Esther (Matas), Sylvia (Pulmer), and Evelyn (Wiesenthal), and grandson Mark Steiman. For 70 years he was the loving husband to his wife, Doris, and devoted father of daughter Karen (Ivan) Brodsky and sons Gerry (Sandi) and David (Sheila). He was the proud grandfather of Adam (Valerie) Brodsky, Matt Brodsky, Josh (Jen) Steiman, Jennifer (Sam) Banayan, Michelle Steiman, Cheryl Steiman, as well as the loving great-grandfather of Lauren, Eden, Sol, and Shai Brodsky, and Marissa Steiman. Keppy, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, grew up on Machray Avenue in Winnipeg's North End. He attended Machray Elementary and graduated from St. John's High School. He served his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force, rising to the rank of Flight Instructor. During that time he also played football for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His prowess as an auctioneer at Carter's Auction was respected not only by Winnipeg's business community but also by thousands of children as the beloved TV auctioneer for Old Dutch Kid's Bids. Generously, he gave his time to local Jewish causes and was a strong supporter of Israel. First and foremost Keppy was a devoted husband and an adoring father. He was so very proud of Doris, to his eyes the most beautiful woman in any room. Although often working long hours, he always made time for his family. Keppy was always a source of support and guidance whenever necessary, guiding his children with wisdom; comforting them with his unwavering love. The summers in Gimli were the highlight of his year, spending quality time with those he loved. With gentleness, kindness, and a soft voice he taught us all so very much. He was a man of his word, teaching his children to do the right thing, no matter the cost. Keppy treated everyone with dignity and respect. He was slow to judge but quick to love. Keppy was a life-long member of the Dormer Mt. Sinai Lodge #188 where he served as an inspiration to many. He was proud to be welcomed as a Shriner. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Brendan MacDougall and Dr. John Mayba for the excellent medical care and treatment provided over the last several years. The compassion and devotion provided by Joy White, Portia Connell, and all who cared for him, was greatly appreciated by the family. We are forever grateful for their services. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Etz Chayim Synagogue, Rabbi Lander officiating. Pallbearers are Ivan Brodsky, Gerry Steiman, David Steiman, Adam Brodsky, Matt Brodsky, Josh Steiman, Jennifer Banayan, Michelle Steiman and Cheryl Steiman. His memory may be honoured through donations to the Keppy and Doris Steiman Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Congregation Etz Chayim, or charity of choice. Shiva will be observed at 200 Tuxedo Boulevard on Wednesday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Monday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Keppy, your gentle touch, the look in your wise tearful eyes, and the soft, sweet sound of your voice will be in our hearts forever.
