Jewish Genealogy – How I Found My Roots in a Wisconsin Barn

July 1, 2018 @ 1:00 pm

Every family history search takes us on a journey, often with surprises along the way. Join the Minnesota Jewish Genealogical Society for a talk by Dr. Steven Heifetz on his exploration of the early Jewish community where his great-grandfather served as rabbi and his Lithuanian roots. But that was only the beginning. In a forgotten shed, he was to make a discovery that was both unexpected and very significant to both his family and the community.

Steve Heifetz is a cardiologist who was first drawn into his family history when his twins had their B’nai Mitzvah in 2002. In advance of the family gathering, he sought to identify the family connections behind his large family, realizing he knew little of his history. Little did he anticipate the journey which was about to unfold.
